Experiencing rap fame doesn’t happen where Devy Stonez is from. Raised with his brother between Shreveport, Louisiana and Dallas, Texas, the 22-year-old MC always had dreams of becoming the rap’s next big superstar.

His passion stemmed from his rough upbringing, where his voice wasn’t often heard. In his mid-teens, Stonez began writing raps and eventually formed a group with his high school friends named BLVCKTAG. Together the group released over a dozen of mixtapes, open shows for Big Sean, Chief Keef and Migos and amassing tens of thousands streams on their music and visuals. Stonez met the founder of local label Matthew Winn in 2013 and after graduating high school he eventually left the group to embark on his solo endeavors.

That’s most likely why Stonez 2015 debut EP Stepping Stonez -- home to the standouts “You Like” and “Last Summer” with nearly a million of listens on SoundCloud -- sounds so polished. The charismatic MC doesn’t skimp on honesty and charm for the 6-track offering. Sonically, it finds a new sonic cusp that is somewhere in between Jazz rap and early 2000 R&B/Pop jams. Stonez explore topic of struggle, love and lost.

With the breakout single “You Like”, Stonez was soon everywhere. Performing shows across the region and gaining national attention in Noisey, Pigeons & Planes and 2DopeBoyz. The Dallas Observer soon pegged Devy as Dallas’ next big breakout star.

The rapper then switched the style up for his 2016 effort Rolling Stonez. He traded his jazzy beats for more southern hip-hop soundscapes that find him determined to take advantage of life. From the hard-hitting opener “Geaux” to the 00s R&B cut “Slow it Down” and the dark-horse number “Been a Winner”, Stonez finds his balance of ambition and growth.

The project would go on to be streamed and downloaded over 500,000 times with viral singles “The Invite” and “Slow it Down”, with the latter being streamed over 250,000 times on Spotify. Stonez was highlighted as TIDAL’s Rising Artist in 2016. Following a brief hiatus he returned with his upcoming mixtape Vol. 1: Enjoying Life slated for release June 28th. Enjoying Life is a wavy mix of summer jams with a hint of southern soul. The project's lead single "Up the Stats" has amassed over 300,000 streams on streaming.
